The Role

We are constantly hiring for Trainee Recruitment Consultants and we offer a full training programme for every new recruit. Your role will involve generating new business and finding vacancies to be filled. This will involve making sales calls, filling vacancies by searching for and interviewing candidates and putting them forward to clients. You will have ongoing recruitment training and have the opportunity to progress based solely on your ability and performance. With the targets for promotion clearly set in stone your advancement is only reliant on you.

To work in recruitment you need to be sales-y, but to work at Rise you need good morals, ethics and determination.

John has been at Rise since the very beginning, working one day a week whilst studying business studies at UWE, then working a placement year before becoming a full fledged trainee in 2008. “I am a great believer that what you put in should be what you get out, I was drawn to the idea of being able to pave a career for myself, the opportunity for unlimited progression in a company that wanted to do things the right way.”

John is now Regional Manager for the South East, his team was top team in 2013, “I really enjoy taking trainees through the steps to becoming consultants and seeing people develop.”

The culture that we’ve created in this business is not about the money or the profit. It’s about whether we can be proud of the company we are in.

Ben co-founded Rise Technical with his business partner Jeff Leng in 2005. Ten years on, Rise is one of the fastest growing companies in the country.

How would you say Rise has changed in the last ten years?
It has changed massively. We’ve gone from two guys with lots of ambition but no real direction to one of the fastest growing companies in the UK. We’ve developed as a business with the moral code, our manuals, our training, development and understanding of what we need to do to meet our goals and objectives.

The real turning point for me was the recession. It taught us that you really need to reduce your costs as much as possible, maximise your profit and keep cash in the business. Now everything that we do supports our goals of becoming the number 1 engineering recruiter, being a great place to work and being one of the fastest growing companies in the country.

What drives you toward success?
I’m competitive, I just want to see how far I can push myself. I’m ambitious and where before my ambitions may have seemed a bit far fetched I can now see how I can actually reach those goals.

What achievements are you particularly proud of?
I’m proud of the people we’ve got within the business and I’m proud of the culture we’ve created of people striving to be the best that they can possibly be. The culture that we’ve created in this business is not about the money or the profit, it’s about whether we can be proud of the company we are in.

What’s your biggest priority right now?
To really make sure that we hit our goals, we need to be the number one, we need to be a great place to work and we need to be the fastest growing. The most immediate priority is being a great place to work, we always have been but as we grow sometimes that can get lost.

Can you sum up your philosophy?
You need to have positive thinking and ambition to get to the top. Just make sure that you do it by being honest and morally correct so that you can be proud about the way you have gotten there.

Jeff Leng
Have big goals, learn quickly and never give up.

Jeff co-founded Rise Technical Recruitment with Ben McCarthy in 2005 having spent four years working together as managers in the Bristol branch of a recruitment company. Ten years later we talk about what led to the Rise Technical of today.

What led you to starting Rise Technical Recruitment?
In 2000 after graduating from UWE with an economics degree, I started working for a stock-listed recruitment company. The first three months were tough but after a year I became top consultant and progressed very quickly. I’d wanted to start my own business since I was eight years old when I read the poem ‘Thinking’ by Walter D Wintle. When the opportunity came in 2005 to sell my car and have enough to start up I had to take it.

How would you say the company has changed in the last 10 years?
We started out in an office the size of my desk. We grew very quickly to two offices with 40 members of staff. Then the recession hit and we went down to 8 employees. It taught us how to be business people, how to make sure that you look after your staff, provide great service and keep cash in the company.

Since then, in the last 4 years, we have doubled headcount, turnover and profit year on year but during that time we’ve kept the culture the same; it’s still a small business culture, a very close knit environment.

What drives you toward success?
Our goals. Goals for me are not about money but creating something exceptional.

What achievements are you particularly proud of?
Seeing people develop and become success stories.

What is your biggest priority right now?
The main priority is to make sure that the company is the best that it can possibly be.

Training

At Rise Technical, we like to make sure all our trainees are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to become an outstanding recruiter. As long as you have the personality and ambition, we can teach you the skills. We won’t lie, the first few weeks are particularly tough; you will need to take in and learn a lot to hit the ground running, however you will be surrounded by a team of experienced people who all want you to do well and will celebrate with you when you succeed.
